Arriving in Rwanda

Melissa Collum will be arriving in Rwanda on June 9 and participating in a Global Grassroots Academy for Social Change from June 12 - 26. She will be posting each day about the events happening in the Academy, the people and the new Global Grassroots projects taking shape. She will remain in Rwanda, working with Global Grassroots groups to write curriculum, take oral histories and write a book. All of these projects will be posted daily on the blog.

Dr. Kelly Collum, professor emeritus - St. Norbert College and WCSS Journal editor, will be arriving with Melissa Collum and leaving July 5. Kelly will be working the Academy, drama groups, teaching acting as well as working with "Think about Young Girls" helping to build safe latrines and showers. This will be Kelly's first trip to Africa.

Erin Forton, an educator from Alaska, will be arriving on June 24 and leaving July 28. She will be working on health related projects as well as fiber arts projects with many of the Global Grassroots women.

I will be arriving in Rwanda on July 1 and remaining until Melissa and I leave on Aug. 3. I will be working on photo essays of the Global Grassroots projects and my journey throughout Rwanda. We hope to chronicle the Rwandan election process, voting takes place shortly after we leave.

We welcome your input as to what you would like to see, learn and be able to share in your classroom from the work we are doing. We also welcome student input on these projects! Feel free to comment on the blog or email us at wcssglobalforward@gmail.com.
